IELTS Reading Question Pattern
There are 14 different types of Reading questions in the Academic Module of the IELTS test. They are:
- Short Answer Question
- Sentence Completion
- Notes Completion
- Matching Headings
- Diagram Completion
- Flow-chart Completion
- Matching Information
- Table Completion
- Multiple Choice Questions (4-option MCQ, 5-option MCQ, 7-option MCQ)
- Matching Sentence Ending
- True, False, Not Given
- Matching Features
- Yes, No, Not Given
- Summary Completion (with or without options)

On the other hand, there are 12 different Reading question types in the General Training module. They are:
- Multiple Matching
- Short Answer Question
- Sentence Completion
- Notes Completion
- Matching Headings
- Flow-chart Completion
- Matching Information
- Table Completion
- Multiple Choice Questions (4-option MCQ, 5-option MCQ, 7-option MCQ)
- True, False, Not Given
- Matching Features
- Summary Completion (with or without options)
The difference between Academic and General Training Reading question types is that students do not get ‘Yes, No, Not Given’, ‘Diagram Completion’, and ‘Matching Sentence Ending’ in the General Training module. And one different question type, particularly of General training module – ‘Multiple Matching’ is not there in the Academic module.
